We're switching from days to weeks since counting the days is just too dang difficult. We know we haven't been keeping up with this thing (sorry to our 2 readers (Hey mom! Hey dad!)), but we lead busy lives, man! School is in full force; we have 8 assignments due this weekend, and two exams next week. Sometimes I wonder if we truly are smart for signing up for a half-ironman while attempting to get our doctorate. Most likely the answer is no.... but we're all a bit crazy right?!
Recap on what we've done this week and a half:
Sat: Ran 9 miles (We felt great on this run, avg pace 8:30) Swim 2000m.
Sun: Biked 1 hr, and watched the closing ceremonies (We watched every single day, we are very proud Americans to say the least! And Court sang the Olympic theme song every time it came on (yes all 18 days), not just sang but belted, I've gotten used to her goofiness.)
Mon: Rest
Tues: Swam 2000m, biked 2hrs, it was an endurance Spinerval, actually a really awesome workout
Wed: Rest (Just one of those days)
Thurs: Court ran 5mi and K walked Beem for 4mi (aka, she took an easy day)
Fri: Court taught yoga at 6 and then we both went to yoga in the evening (first time in 2.5 months, It felt sooooooo good, but boy our postural muscles were and still are screaming)
Sat (that's today!): Struggle run of 10mi and swam an average of 250m. The first 5 miles were great (8:10 pace) then we took a break for some water and got chilled and never really warmed up after that. Oh and we were ridiculously sore. That's right...yoga kicked our booties and we struggled through the run and tried to swim. We sat at the edge of the pool for what, 30min? Chatting and talking about how we DIDN'T want to get in the water and how we just want to go "home home" and have our parents take care of us. Yep, even at the ripe old age of almost 25, we still want to be babied haha. C'mon spring break...only 2.5 more weeks!
School is wearing on us, and there is no denying that we are pretty stressed out. However, our long runs and bikes may seem like a struggle at the time, but we're working our way up there. Although a lot of our blog seems down in the dumps, we are so lucky that we have healthy bodies that are capable of being pushed to the limit. Fight on we will. It's a long fight and you can't win every fight, but as long as you get up and keep throwing punches you're on the right track. We have done some pretty cool things in school this week, we both kicked a$$ on our musculoskeletal exam. Which is a relief because we both want to go into the ortho realm of PT which is entirely musculoskeletal based. Court is sports ortho focused I am manual therapy ortho focused. We also learned how to serial cast for neurologic stroke patients. It was a neat lab and a nice change of pace from the regular. We almost gave Court a heart attack by using the cast saw on her leg (don't worry...there were at least 6 layers of fluff btwn her skin and the vibrating saw). Finally we learned some lumbopelvic manipulations for low back pain (think chiropractic stuff (boo, but our way is much safer)...PT is truly a jack of all trades.) We'd like to give a shout out to all our friends and family supporting in our triathlon journey. Y'all are the best! (Just a disclaimer, the "y'all" was Court as K doesn't say "y'all" ever...lol.)
