Has it really been a month and a half since we last posted?.... yikes! Sorry about that folks, school just took over our life. We had 6 case studies, exams and finals, practicals, research to complete and training to get done. It was a whirlwind but we survived. Both of our research has been completed and sent in for review for publication (keep your fingers crossed that they will be accepted)! My focus is sports and my research is looking at the effects of exertional therapy on post concussion syndrome management. K's is manual orthopedic focused and her research is on whether or not instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization is all it's cut out to be. Back to the real excitement..... race day is in 1 week!!!!! HOLY MOSES! Since training began we have run 346.8 miles, biked 234 miles on the road, and about 321 miles on the trainer....go us! We have been waiting for taper week since the day we started, easy workouts and carbo loading.... sign me up!!! Ask any endurance athlete out there and they will say tapering is about 7.9 times better than Christmas, it is that awesome! Your body is finally feeling like a somewhat normal human being instead of being beat and exhausted all the time. Now we are only exhausted for 20 of the 24 hours in the day.... jackpot! And who doesn't like pasta All. The. Time?! Spaghetti get in my belly! We have both received our race numbers, I am 551 and K is 552 (pretty awesome huh?!) and our race cap is yellow (at least its not pink)! We are both ready to get this race over with and just do yoga for the rest of the summer (if only a triathlon was made up of sun salutations, stretching and savasana..... we would be rockstars). We plan on leaving Friday and heading up to Lawrence, Saturday we check in, turn our bikes in to the transition area, and learn all the rules... and BUY ALL THE MERCHANDISE!!!! One of our motivators during our long runs or bikes was always "we just have to finish so we can get the dang t-shirt" so needless to say they better be awesome! After that drive the course and check out the hill at mile 50 everyone has been talking about.... woof! Then it will be a early bed time around 7 pm as our wake up call will be around 3:45 am on Sunday morning. We still have to narrow down our race day nutrition strategy, but I think we have it almost ironed out. So if any of our triathlon buddies have any advise or suggestions on race day strategies please please please let us know, we can use all the help we can get. 1 week and counting..... here goes nothing!
