Around 5:30 last night I got a frantic call from K that went something like this: "there is a deer stuck, bring tools, come quick, wear gloves" After letting this process for about 30 sec. I grabbed my tool kit and was off, no clue where this poor deer was and where K was. As K was out for a walk, Beemer had stopped and noticed this poor little deer, Mitzy, stuck in a barbwire fence along the path. Her hind leg was caught and she was dangling on the ground struggling to get free. K stayed and calmed down the deer as I ran with the tool kit in hand. We walked down to the poor scared deer, reassured her that we were gonna get her free, and got down to it. Let me just say small wire cutters are very difficult to get through farm grade barbwire fencing. But a few minutes later, the wire sprang free and Mitzy's leg was loose. She quickly got up and jumped away. As she hopped off, the first words out of our mouths were, "well she is PWB (partial weight bearing) and getting full ROM (range of motion)". Yes our inner PT is assessing gait even on a deer. BE FREE MITZY. And may the odds be ever in your favor!
Oh and we ran 4 miles yesterday in the warm 40 degree weather.
